The Figleaf Boutique is a clothing ministry designed to assist those who are facing challenging times.  They offer new or gently used clothing free to the shopper.  This is our way to say we care, relieving some of the financial burdens many are facing.
New shoppers fill out a registration sheet and are entered into the computers data base.  Then each family member has the opportunity to chose 10 items per visit.. Boots, shoes, belts, purses and scarves are often available and are limited are 2 per person.  Shoppers are welcome to visit our store once every 3 months.
Figleaf is a non-profit organization with no paid staff.  Currently Mishawaka First has volunteers that are invested in making connections and building community at Figleaf.  The building is rented, utilities are paid for, and cleaning supplies etc. are purchased all by the generous donation of others.
You too can be part of a vital, giving ministry by donating financially (write check to FUMC with Figleaf in the memo), by bringing your gently used clothing on one of the days of operation or by serving with your hands and feet being Christ along side of others.  Volunteers help bag selected clothing,  sort and hang donated clothes, or spend time in prayer with shoppers if they are willing.   FUMC prayer shawls are also available for those who would like one.

Susie Beiger Trust

Susie Beiger Trust is an organization that provides financial assistance to ladies who have limited income, reside in Mishawaka and are sixty years of age or older.  The Trust Fund is managed by the FUMC and the First Source Bank.  The Trust provides financial assistance for utility bills, rent or home payments, food gift certificates, auto repairs, medical needs, etc. that are approved by the committee.  If you or someone you know are in need of assistance, please call or visit our church office to fill out an application form and submit it for approval.  An original invoice must be attached to your application.

Geneva E. and Genevieve A. Long Teacher Memorial Scholarship Fund

This scholarship has a very narrow criteria. We are looking for active members of a UMC in Penn Township, St Joe county, Indiana, going to school for teaching or a closely related field. The student should have been in the top half of his or her high school graduating class, and priority is given to people who have just graduated high school. A letter of recommendation from your pastor must accompany the application.

Applications can be picked up in the church office or from First Source Bank.

Help with Love - HWL

Need help... Reach out to Help with Love: 574-252-2953

HWL connects people with resources through the local church.  Churches are connected with helpline callers near them and empowered to form friendships with them and walk with them in life.

Servants at Work - SAWS
SAWS is a nonprofit organization that builds wheelchair ramps to provide persons with disabilities and conditions of aging with the freedom to remain in their homes and reconnect with their communities.
SAWS is a faith based, ecumenical ministry that welcomes all who want to share in our mission.  Volunteers come from all walks of life and every vocation imaginable.  Men and women work to provide FREEDOM to anyone who would otherwise be trapped by everyday obstacles and financial circumstances.

FUMC partnered with SAWS recently to help a Mishawaka neighbor with the gift of FREEDOM!  Here are some pictures from the awesome build and keep checking for information on helping with the next build for a member of our congregation!
